What is the Best Domain Extension?

The best website name is generally considered dot com because it is the one most commonly used. dot net is often used and if another website name is similar, the visitor might mistakenly type in dot com. The .org extension is used for organizations and most are non-profit. .info can be used but it is like dot net and should only be used if there is not a similar website name. Generally, dot com extensions perform better on a search that most other extensions. It is our experience that a dot net performs well, but if possible, the dot com is the best. Again, beware of trademark issues. Usually, if there is no other paperwork, the business that started first gets to keep that domain.

Also, if you are targeting one specific geographic area, having the city in the domain name (as of the post) may help (eg., Omaha Web Design, Omaha Web Hosting will be Omaha web design.xxx and Omaha web hosting.xxx).
